Educational Resources on Voting and Elections: Humphreys videos

Voting is a social determinant of health, basic human right, and often-overlooked strategy for improving individual and community outcomes. Social workers and organizations are uniquely positioned to reach people who are least likely to vote, in part because they have never been given the information and encouragement they need to do so. Funded by the Scholars Strategy Network, these videos are for social workers, educators, organizations, communities, and anyone who wants to know more about voting and the important role we all play in supporting an inclusive democracy.

Why Voting Matters

This nonpartisan video debunks the manufactured myth that voting doesn’t matter and covers why voting is good for you, the power of your vote, the importance of voting in all elections, and how voting rights have been restricted and suppressed.

Voting as a Social Work Intervention

As social workers, supporting the political power and participation of clients and communities directly aligns with our profession’s mission, Code of Ethics, and our impact. In this video, we share how and why social workers, agencies and nonprofits can and should support clients, staff and communities to vote.

Defending Democracy: Voter Rights and Suppression

This video includes a brief overview of voting rights in the United States and covers who can vote in our country and how the fight for access to this fundamental right continues today.

Voting in Connecticut

Voting as a Mental Health Intervention

With funding from the Yeshiva University Provost's office, and support from Voting is Social Work, Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, a group of social work and marriage and family therapy students created the Voter Ambassador Program to train fellow students about the ways voting can be used as a mental health intervention. As part of this project, the students presented to fellow students throughout the 2024-2025 academic year and created this video to extend the reach of their project.
