Voter Eligibility
Am I eligible to Vote?
- Are you at least 17 and turning 18 on or before Election Day?
- Are you a United States citizen living in Connecticut?
- If you have been convicted of a felony, have you completed confinement?

- If you can answer yes to all three of these questions, you are eligible to register to vote in Connecticut.

- Take 20 seconds to look up your voter registration.
How do I register to vote or update my voter registration?
- Residents with a CT drivers license or state ID can register online.
- Or download a paper form in English or Spanish and mail or deliver it to your town’s registrar of voters office.
What is the deadline to register and what do I do if I miss the deadline?
- The deadline to register online, in person, or by mail is Oct. 18, 2024. Applications that are mailed in must be postmarked or received by that date.
- If you miss the deadline, Connecticut residents can register and vote during the early voting period or on election day.
- On election day, same day registration will not be available at your regular polling location. Towns designate Same Day Registration locations, and these are posted online by the Secretary of the State’s office one or two weeks before Election Day.

How to Vote In-Person
Where do I vote?
- Find your polling place online or by calling 860-509-6200.
- If you miss the October 18 registration deadline, Connecticut offers Same Day Registration, but it will not be available at your regular polling location on Election Day. Towns designate Same Day Registration locations, and these are posted online by the Secretary of the State’s office one or two weeks before Election Day.

What time are polls open on election day?
- For an election or primary, polls in Connecticut are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Any elector standing in line at the polls at 8 p.m. will be allowed to cast a vote.
- Check with your Town Clerk for the hours of voting on a referendum, as they vary by town.
How does Early Voting work?
- Anyone eligible to vote in the general election can vote during the early voting period. Early voting begins 14 days before the general election, on Oct. 21, 2024, and runs through Nov. 3, including weekends. Voting hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, except Oct. 29, 2024, and Oct. 31, when the voting hours will be extended to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

- Before you are given a ballot at the polls, you will be asked to provide a government-issued ID, a different ID with your name and photo, or a document like a utility bill or checkbook that has your name and address.

How to Vote by Absentee or Mail-In Ballot
Can I vote by using an absentee or mail-in ballot?
- Connecticut law allows you to receive an absentee ballot if, in your judgment, an absence from your town on Election Day prevents you from appearing at your polling place, or you are prevented from appearing at your assigned polling place on Election Day because of sickness or physical disability (not necessarily your sickness or disability), active service in the Military, religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the election, duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during all of the hours of voting.

- To receive your absentee ballot, please complete and sign an application and return it to your Town Clerk. Locate your local Town Clerk.
- Request your online Absentee Ballot.
Voting Rights and Special Circumstances
What are my rights as a voter in CT?
- You have rights as a voter, including the right to ask for and receive assistance during voting. All polling locations are accessible and are equipped with accessible voting options.
- You can also request a ballot in Spanish. All polling locations also have a video and audio translation service that offers translations in dozens of languages via video and audio, including American Sign Language.

- The Secretary of State’s website has fact sheets for first time voters, voters with disabilities, voters experiencing homelessness, and voters in the military or living overseas.
- Connecticut has an Address Confidentiality Program for survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking. The ACP participant’s actual address of residence (street, house number, and town) will be suppressed from the voter registration list upon presentation of the certification card to the town registrar of voters.
